How to prepare for your appliance repair visit

Whenever an appliance malfunctions, it can really disrupt the overall flow of your life. Dishes don’t get done, clothes don’t get washed, food can’t be cooked and everyone in your household’s routine can get thrown off.

That being said – while the process is never any fun, getting back up and running as quickly as possible is what becomes most important. And getting back up and running usually means – preparing for your repairman to show up and fix your appliance. Here are some tips on how you can best prepare for their visit and ensure that things go as smoothly as possible. Let’s jump right in!

Clear your schedule

While you’ll obviously want to know exactly what time you expect your contractor to show up, there’s no telling how long they’ll need to be there. When a scheduling assistant gives you a window as to when you can expect your repairman, be sure you’re available during that time and both a little before and after that window as well. Just in case the contractor is running a little ahead of time or behind – you’ll be there.

Be prepared

Make sure you’re able to thoroughly explain the issue you’re having with the appliance so the contractor can evaluate the situation. Make sure your appliance is clean and empty, provide him with any manuals, invoices of any service work that has been done in the past and the like. All of this will make the contractor’s job 100% easier.

Provide a clear path

Make sure your contractor has a clear path to whatever he needs to get to. This will save you time (and a little money as well), but also helps designate a way to the appliance so the contractor is trampling through your living space carrying equipment, tools and the like. Make sure there’s adequate lighting in the area as well – so it’s easier for them to see what they’re doing.

Keep tabs on your animals

If you’re a pet lover, make sure they’re created or in a separate part of the house. Animals get very uneasy not only when strangers are in the home, but when they see general disarray. And we don’t want to stress our furry friends out! Put your pets in another area of the house or outside.

Talk about payment options up front

If you’re unsure as to how paying for a service call works, ask! Do they have a service visit fee? Diagnostic fee? If so, how much? Does it need to be paid in full at the time of service? Know what’s required so you can be prepared when the contractor is finishing up their work.

If you’re experiencing issues with your appliances, give us a call today and we’ll be happy to provide you with a free consultation. Until then, good luck!
