Simple washing machine maintenance

Washing machines are a true workhorse of our homes – cleaning your clothes day in and day out. But just like any other thing in your life – it requires regular and on-going maintenance to make sure that it’s operating at its best.

Today, we’re going to discuss some of the things you can do before calling a maintenance professional – that will help you get more out of your washer and help increase the length of its life. Let’s jump right in.

Read the manufacturer’s manual

Folks, this seems really obvious but next to no one does it. So many issues we deal with come from homeowners simply not familiarizing themselves with their appliances. Read the document – know how to use the appliance correctly. Know and understand the requirements your machine has for usage. In addition – they also have troubleshooting sections as well – which can help prepare you in advance for any issues that might tend to pop up with a washer like yours.

Clean the machine

Soap scum, lint and mineral deposits often can accumulate in your washing machine – all of which can have an adverse effect on its performance. Cleaning your machine is way easier than you think too. First – to avoid too much buildup, simply leave the washer door open after every cleaning. This should cut down the grime by ¾’s of what you’d normally deal with. Second, just simply run an empty load on hot water with some vinegar or washing machine cleaner.

Don’t overload

Overloading reduces your machine’s ability to clean your laundry but it also causes your washer to work overtime to complete the load. This means more stress on the motor, belts and other various components that make your washer go. That increased stress dramatically increases the likelihood that something will fail. Follow your manual for optimal load capacity.

Schedule ongoing maintenance

One of the best things you can do to help yourself is to hire a maintenance pro who can come look at your washer once a year. They’ll do a cleaning, check connections and frankly – you’ll be able to get out ahead of problems before they turn into catastrophes.

If you’re looking for Tampa Appliance repair and need someone to come take a look at your washer, give us a call today and we’ll be happy to help. Until then – good luck!
