Some of the reasons your dishwasher won’t turn on

As dependable as your dishwasher might be, problems can come up from time to time. One of the most common of those problems that we encounter – is that your dishwasher simply won’t turn on.

Today, we’re going to give you some tips so you can troubleshot the problem on your own. That way, you won’t end up calling us for something that might be simple or on the other hand – you’ll be able to better identify what the issue is when and if you need us to come and help. Let’s jump right in!

Power supply

There’s a lot going on inside a dishwasher and as such – things like the power cord might be out of place. Be sure to check it and make sure there’s no damage or anything out of the ordinary. Also, some dishwashers are connected to a kitchen switch of sorts – that will need to be in the ‘on’ position for it to receive power. Be sure to check that. Last, but certainly not least – be sure to check to see if any circuit breakers have been tripped.

The door latch

In order for a dishwasher to do its thing , the door needs to be completely closed and the latch needs to be engaged. Latches are important because they prompt the wash cycle to begin, but they also help seal the door so you don’t have to deal with any undue messes. If your dishwasher won’t engage even though the door is closed properly – it might be the latch that needs to be repaired.

Water supply

Always be on the lookout for any water supply issues. Check the valves that connect to the line to make sure they haven’t been bumped into a closed position. Look for any potential kinks in the water line and also try to make sure there isn’t any disconnect. Many models won’t turn on unless there’s a water supply detected.

Broken sensors

In today’s increasingly digital world, dishwashers are, well – going digital. And that means things can simply go awry for no other reason than they do. Things like the thermal fuse can blow and other sensors can malfunction. In this case, if you’ve followed all the steps above, this is probably what you’re dealing with – in which it’ll be time to give us a call to come take a look.

If your dishwasher is giving you issues, give us a call today and we’ll be happy to help you out. Until then, be sure you’re caring for your dishwasher and making sure you’re doing the maintenance work up front to minimize the risk of issues occurring. Good luck!
