The three things to consider when purchasing a new refrigerator

One of the more significant decisions you’ll make as a homeowner is what kind of refrigerator you should buy. It’s something that you’ll not only use every day; but that you’ll ultimately come to depend on.

If you’re in the market for a new refrigerator, there are some things you’ll need to consider before taking the plunge. Today, we’re going to talk about the three most important things for you to consider before you make the investment. Let’s jump right in!

Size

The first thing you’ll have to consider is the fridge’s size. Refrigerators come in all sorts of shapes and sizes and having something that not only fits your space, but has the space to meet your needs – is important. Because of the dimensions of your kitchen, you might have to make some sacrifices depending on what you have to work with, so be prepared to look at options that will fit.

Energy use

Energy efficiency is a big buzzword today in the appliance world, as older appliances can jack up your utility bill in a hurry – especially if they’re not working properly. That being said though – even on that, specific sliding scale – refrigerators are way high up the list. They’re constantly on and they’re constantly running. Pursuing an energy efficient unit is important.

Refrigerators last about 12 years on average and refrigerators over 10 years old use 33% more energy than newer models. In many ways, if you choose the right model, the fridge can almost pay for itself.

Features

Not all refrigerators are created equal. They come chock full of features these days. There’s purified water pitchers, ice makers – there’s even internet connectivity. While it’s fun to have all these features – you definitely need to have the conversation about why you’re buying the fridge in the first place and understand that adding these features can add up in a hurry. Make sure you have a list of priorities of the things you NEED to have vs. the things that are just nice to have.
